Lacrosse balls are not only good for playing Lacrosse, They’re also a versatile tool which you can use to give yourself a post-workout massage. Having your own personal masseuse would be great, but a Lacrosse ball can have the same effect, at a fraction of the cost!!
An essential piece of REHAB/PREHAB equipment, lacrosse balls are made from a very dense, hard rubber. This means that they hold their shape, and that their non-slip surface keeps them on the right spot. Simply position one wherever you feel a tension or pain in your body and apply pressure, either against the floor, wall or other solid object. Move slightly to roll the ball about until you find a tender spot then apply more pressure for a few seconds and then relax. Use them on your feet, hamstrings, back, shoulders, chest or wherever you have a tight muscle.
Our muscles are covered by a thin sheath of connective tissue called fascia which connects the different muscle groups. When the fascia are tight they can distort the natural alignment of the body causing pain as pressure is put on joints and muscles. A lacrosse ball massage can stretch the fascia to restore pain-free movement.
Using a Lacrosse ball for a self-myofascial massage can help to decrease soreness and fatigue after exercise, improve muscle performance and increase the range of motion in your joints. More than one ball can be used simultaneously or try out the Peanut roller which is made of a hard silicon and looks like two balls joined together. It too is a great aid for achieving a deep, trigger point massage even in those hard to reach places.
Industrial Athletic offer one of the best ranges of lacrosse balls in New Zealand, either singly or in packs of ten, so you can always have one on hand when needed.
